Two Charged After Single Vehicle Crash in Chatham

A dangerous situation on the roads of Chatham has landed two people with charges.

Chatham-Kent Police received a call just before 9 last night about a vehicle on Park Street swerving into oncoming traffic, jumping the curb, and hitting a tree.

Officers arrived at the scene to find a man talking to the driver, then walking a short distance away.

Investigators say the woman behind the wheel and the man were under court orders not to associate with one another.

The driver was arrested under suspicion of being under the influence of drugs and was taken to headquarters for tests. Police also allegedly found fentanyl in the vehicle.

The 26-year-old is now facing charges of operating a vehicle while impaired, filing to comply with an undertaking, and possession of a controlled substance.

The man was also taken into custody and charged with breaching a probation order, possession of a controlled substance, and two counts of failing to comply with a release order.
