Two Charged Following Report Of Gunfire On Walpole Island

A report of gunfire on Walpole Island has led to charges for two men.

Officers with the Ontario Provincial Police and Walpole Island First Nation Police responded to a River Road address at around 5 p.m. on Thursday after receiving a report about an altercation that involved gunfire.

Two men were arrested at the scene and no injuries were reported.

As a result of an investigation, a 29-year-old man and a 35-year-old man from the First Nation have both been charged with possession of a Schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking. The 35-year-old is additionally charged with careless use of a firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm, and reckless discharge of a firearm.

Both men remain in custody pending a bail hearing in Sarnia scheduled for next week.
