Two Chatham Men Charged In Bizarre Double Theft, One Bites Store Clerk

Two Chatham men have been charged after a bizarre theft at a convenience store in Chatham on Monday morning.
Police responded to a shoplifting incident, where a clerk had been bitten by a thief who stole a sleeve of lottery tickets. The biting bandit then fled the scene on foot.
Police say a second suspect, also in the store, took advantage of the situation by stealing additional lottery tickets and a handful of lighters.
The second thief was taken into custody at the scene and was found to be in possession of the stolen items.
A 46-year-old Chatham man is charged with two counts of theft under $5000 and two counts of being in possession of property under $5000. He was released pending a future court date.
Officers later located the first suspect at a nearby motel. The man was found to be in possession of the stolen lottery tickets, oxycodone and a counterfeit 200 Euro bill.
The 38-year-old Chatham man is facing charges of robbery, possession of property obtained by a crime under $5000, uttering counterfeit money, drug possession and obstructing police for providing a false name. He was also released pending a future court date.
