A pair of local organizations are in the running for a national agricultural award.
Three community groups from Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and Ontario are in the running for the Growing Home competition by BASF with a chance to win one of four $25,000 prizes.
The Ontario finalists include the Three Oaks Respite Cabin near Florence and the Highgate District Agricultural Society.
The Three Oaks Cabin aims to provide respite and mental health support to farmers and first responders. Officials say if they were to win the Growing Home prize, the funding would help cover the cost of counselling services to guests at the cabin.
The Highgate District Agricultural Society, founded in 1854, is a 100% volunteer run organization, and officials say winning the $25,000 would help ensure long term financial stability to provide services and events to the community for generations to come.
The three finalists in each province were selected by a judging panel based on three main criteria: building safe and healthy communities; diversity, equity and inclusion; and developing future leaders in agriculture.
This is the second year for the Growing Home competition, offering rural farming communities a chance to highlight the organizations that mean the most to them.
Online voting is open until April 15 and the winners will be announced April 30th. CLICK HERE to cast your vote.
