The COVID-19 death toll continues to rise in Chatham-Kent.

Chatham-Kent Public Health reported on Wednesday that a man and woman in their 90s have lost their lives to the virus, bringing the local death toll to 46 since the pandemic began.

Public health said the two CK residents were both associated with long-term care, retirement or group homes that are in an active outbreak. The exact locations are not being released at this time.

Nineteen Chatham-Kent residents have now died from COVID-19 just this month.

One new outbreak at a group home was reported on Wednesday. There are currently 12 active outbreaks within Chatham-Kent — five at local group homes and another seven at long-term care and retirement homes.

The current seven-day rolling average case count now sits at 61 per day with 73 new infections reported on Tuesday.

At the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance, 14 patients are currently being treated primarily for COVID-19, four of whom are being treated in the Intensive Care Unit. Another two are being treated in the Progressive Care Unit.

Of the 14 patients being treated for the virus, only six are fully vaccinated.
