Two more local residents have lost their lives to COVID-19, bringing to 33 the number of COVID deaths since the pandemic began.
Two men passed away at the Health Alliance over the weekend, one man in his 70s, the other in his 80s.
Meantime, there’s been a big jump in new COVID cases in Chatham-Kent over the weekend.
Officials with Public Health are reporting 363 new cases, noting that number doesn’t accurately reflect the true case count in the community since testing is limited.
Public Health has declared an outbreak at a group home setting with seven linked cases. Officials are still keeping an eye on five other outbreaks, all in long term care and retirement homes.
There are 25 COVID patients being treated at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance, down from 29 on Friday.
Four of those patients are in the ICU, all of whom are on a ventilator.
ICU occupancy sits at 80% today, while the PCU (progressive care unit) is 100% full.
CKHA’s medical, surgical, and critical care beds are 98.3% filled.
There are now 87 hospital staff off work because of testing positive for COVID or coming in close contact with the virus.
