Two newly opened laboratories at Lambton College in Sarnia are expected to further research in biotechnology and natural health products.

The Bio Safety Level 2 and the Natural Health Products research labs opened their doors at the college on Tuesday.

The bio lab is equipped to handle projects involving microorganisms requiring elevated containment measures, providing faculty and students access to advanced biotechnology and biomanufacturing capabilities. It is also one of only a handful of certified facilities of its kind.

As well, the natural health lab features a containment-free space for processing highly sensitive products with stringent purity requirements.

“These lab spaces reaffirm Lambton College’s commitment to research and innovation, with a focus on addressing the critical needs of the biotechnology industry and the expanding natural health sector,” said Lambton College President and CEO Rob Kardas in a news release. “They represent more than just an extension of our research and development capabilities, they serve as incubators for hands-on learning experiences, offering students valuable research roles and co-op opportunities.”
