Another local high school football program is in need of support.

On the heels of a successful online fundraiser to buy new football helmets for Wallaceburg District Secondary School, staff at Ursuline College Chatham are launching a similar campaign.

Scott Morkin is the head coach of the UCC senior boys’ football team and has launched a GoFundMe account to raise $16,000 to buy new equipment for the Lancers program.

Morkin says helmets need to be recertified every two years, and replaced every ten years, which puts a tremendous financial burden on schools. He says the donations will allow the school to buy 20 new helmets and 30 new sets of shoulder pads.

“We believe that a football program in high school is important. We believe that our Lancer Football Family can help keep our kids on the field so that they can create the friendships and memories that we all share” Morkin says. “Football creates better young student athletes. Your donation will help create the same memories and opportunities for our future Lancers. It took all of us to build this culture and it might take all of us to keep it going.”
