An early morning for fire fighters in Raleigh Township.

Crews from Stations 15 and 16 responded to a blaze on Bloomfield Road between 9th and 10th Line shortly after 1 o’clock Sunday morning.

Fire officials say the two-storey home was fully engulfed in flames when crews arrived with flames visible in windows on both floors.

Fire fighters managed to prevent the flames from spreading to a nearby garage and vehicles, with heavy equipment brought in to help with tearing down the brick structure.

Everyone inside the home was able to get out safely.

The fire is listed as accidental, blamed on a candle left unattended.

Chatham-Kent Fire and Rescue officials suggest homeowners use flameless candles whenever possible.

“If real candles are lit, blow them out when you leave the room or go to sleep,” a news release states. “Use well ventilated candle holders that are sturdy and will not tip over.”

Damage is estimated at $350,000.
