Local community groups are concerned about the future of the Kiwanis Theatre now that municipality is assuming control of the Capitol Theatre. 
Karen Robinet is the chair of Theatre Kent, which has performed on the Kiwanis stage for 40 years.
“It’s actually larger than what we need,” Robinet explains. “It would be great for the municipality to move forward with reducing the number of seats that they’ve got the funding for, and making that venue smaller for community use.”
Robinet says having the municipality take over management of the Capitol Theatre is good news, but smaller, more affordable venues are still needed.
“We are thrilled that the Capitol is going to be here for the foreseeable future, but it’s too large a space and too expensive for us to use.”
No decisions have been made about the Kiwanis Theatre so far, but officials will be analyzing the pros and cons of the performance space in the new year.
