Unemployment Drops, CK Focusing on Education

educationUnemployment is Chatham-Kent continues to decline, and the number of jobs is going up.

Acting Director of Economic Services Stuart McFadden says there’s a gap though, as some of these jobs require specific skills.

He says their focus is on educating youth about these industries:

“One of the things we concentrated on this year was making sure that we’re talking to our kids in public school and high school about the opportunities that are available in the trades – not only today but tomorrow as well. We need to continue to talk to our kids about what the opportunities are, where the jobs are going to be in the future, and make sure that they’re aware of what they need to fulfill those positions when they enter the work force.”

He also says that local businesses continue to grow and he expects the unemployment rate to continue to decline in the New Year.
