The United Way of Chatham-Kent is hitting the ground running with its 2017 campaign.
Hundreds of Union Gas staffers gathered at the utility’s head office in Chatham yesterday to mark a $200,000 pacesetter donation.
United Way’s Director of Resource Development, Tom Slager, says they’re grateful for the support.
“Union Gas is always one of the cornerstones of our campaign,” Slager says. “As far as organizations go, it’s the single biggest donations that we’ll get throughout the year, comprised of about 2000 people, it’s a great population, they’re very generous, and we couldn’t do it without them.”
Mike Shannon with Union Gas says the pledge is just the tip of the iceberg.
“We’d like to raise a million dollars, if it’s possible” Shannon says. “Certainly if we’re able to achieve higher levels of participation that’d be great too. But really what we want to do is we want to help sustain the United Way in Chatham-Kent.”
Nine member agencies were in attendance at yesterday’s celebration to give Union Gas employees a look at where their donations were going.
