The health and wellness of Black residents will be the focus of an upcoming meeting in Chatham.
The CK Black Health Symposium will be held Saturday, April 26 at the W.I.S.H. Centre in Chatham, reflecting on historical disparities and triumphs in Black health while envisioning a future centered on equity, education, and empowerment.
The keynote speaker will be Chatham-Kent’s Medical Officer of Health, Dr Shanker Nesathurai. Dr. Nesathurai is well known across Ontario for his thoughtful insights into health equity, pandemic response, and population-based strategies to address systemic challenges.
“Understanding Black health today requires us to acknowledge the injustices of yesterday,” says Dr. Nesathurai. “Events like the CK Black Health Symposium help us build a healthier, more informed, and more just future.”
The symposium will also include local presentations and community health insights, networking opportunity with health advocates and professionals, and lunch.
Tickets are $25 and must be purchased in advance online (CLICK HERE) or in-person at the Chatham-Kent Black Historical Society at 177 King Street East in Chatham.
