The cause of Tuesday night’s railroad tie fire in Chatham is undetermined.
More than 40 firefighters and seven trucks from three stations were on scene at 361 Colborne Street just after 6PM where a massive amount of railroad ties were on fire.
C-K Fire says substantial winds caused minimal exposure damage to the back of a neighbouring warehouse. An excavator was also brought in to assist with the moving of railroad ties.
The estimated cost of damage is unknown.
No injuries were reported.
Residents in the area were advised to close their windows and doors to protect themselves from heavy black smoke.
CK Police & EMS, CP Rail Police & CK Rail Hazmat staff, as well as a representative from the Ministry of the Environment were all on scene.
