The rumors are flying around the area about a particular big box store that has seen several employees test positive for COVID-19.
Walmart Canada confirmed to 99.1 News there have been four employees at the Walmart in Wallaceburg test positive.
They say the four associates last worked between December 31, January 2, and January 3 (two staff) respectively, all four are now isolating along with any other staff identified as a close contact.
The store has undergone a deep cleaning, and management is working with the local health unit.
Some have asked why no outbreak has been declared, but Medical Officer Dr. David Colby says they are aware of the problem.
“We have three positive cases that are employed there, but a very careful analysis of their activities, what they do in the organization and everything, could not find any connection between these people at the workplace,” Dr. Colby says. “The investigation that we did supported that they got their infection elsewhere, but just happen to work there.”
Dr. Colby says to close a workplace, there would have to be an outbreak they could not control or a hazard to the general public.
Colby says he would not hesitate to close any business that poses a hazard to the general public.
