A Leamington resident has died following a series of collisions on the 401.

Emergency crews initially responded to a single-vehicle roll-over crash just east of Highway 40.

While officers were on-route, Elgin OPP say a transport collided with the passenger vehicle from the roll-over crash, sending the truck across the centre median, through the eastbound lanes, coming to rest in a farmer’s field.

Two people in the passenger vehicle were taken to hospital. The passenger, a 41-year-old from Leamington, was pronounced dead while the driver was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The driver and lone occupant of the transport was uninjured.

The highway was closed in both directions for several hours while investigators were at the scene. It has since been reopened.
