The United Way of Chatham-Kent’s ‘Rebuilding Wheels, Rebuilding Lives’ is unique in Southwestern Ontario.

The program gave away its first car this week, A Mazda to the Lashmore family of Wallaceburg.

Steve Pratt, CEO of UWOCK wants to see it expand.

“Ideally we would like to grow the program to where we could do it a few cars a year. That’s the plan, we have a lot of people on board and lots that want to get on board. If you’d like to get involved as a business owner, or individual helping out, by all means give us a call. We’d love support of our community behind getting people behind the wheel of reliable vehicles,” says Pratt. ” To be able to help somebody is great. We know that there are a lot of people that quality for the program and we’d love to be able to help everybody at the same time. But we know that it happens one person at a time, one family at a time, we’re happy we’re able to help one person take a major step forward in the right direction.”

Pratt says reliable transportation is the biggest barrier to people who are trying to improve their lives.
