Shortly after 11 Monday morning, Chatham-Kent-Leamington MP Dave Van Kesteren will rise in the house to deliver his opening speech on M-207, the creation of a Dutch Heritage Day.

Considering the long-standing relationship between the two nations, it is hard to believe there is not one already.

Here is the Motion: “That in the opinion of the house, in recognition of the sacrifices made by Canadians in the liberation of the Netherlands, as well as the contributions made to Canada by those of Dutch heritage, the government should recognize every May 5th as Dutch Heritage Day to honour this unique bond.”

Van Kesteren will also have the honor of being the first MP to rise and speak to a motion in the new House of Commons.
