The Fifth Street Bridge may be under construction for longer than expected, after vandals caused extensive damage to the work site.
According to Chris Thibert, Director of Engineering and Transportation, someone cut and damaged electrical wires feeding the street lights on the bridge deck.
Damage was also done to the lighting and duct work under the bridge, and to the contractor’s trailer. A number of materials have also been taken.
The bridge has been under construction since July, 2017. The project has faced numerous delays, mainly weather-related, but the contractor says this case is particularly frustrating.
