An East Kent Councillor is continuing to fight for increased safety in Rushton’s Corners.

David VanDamme says the intersection of Ridge Line and Kent Bridge Road is still a dangerous spot for motorists.

“Numerous people drive through that intersection every day and they tell me that they’re apprehensive about it because they don’t know if they’re going to enter into an accident”, says VanDamme.

VanDamme says there have been dozens of accidents at the intersection over the past few years, and he believes he knows the reason why.

“Something is going on there. The reason why I think accidents are common there is because there is no LED beacon”, explains VanDamme.

“This is the only intersection on that strip of road where there is no LED warning beacon. So people get accustomed to that, and when they’re travelling on that long, rural road, they get used to driving and stopping, driving, and stopping. But if they don’t see that LED beacon in Rushton’s Corners, they’re more likely to drive through it carelessly”, VanDamme says.

He’s going to ask Council to put in an LED beacon at the intersection at Monday night’s council meeting. VanDamme brought forward a similar motion this time last year.
