Veggie Marketing in the Spotlight in Chatham

The future of marketing for vegetables like tomatoes, peas, cucumbers and carrots will be  discussed at Club Lentina’s tonight.

The meeting is being organized by the District 1 Vegetable Growers and will get underway at 7pm.

The discussion will centre on the powers of the Ontario Processing Vegetable Growers, who currently act on the behalf of farmers and negotiate contract prices.

The provincial government is looking at doing away with that system and instead moving to an open market, effectively stripping the organization of its power.

The meeting will be well attended by area farmers as well as local political figures including MPP Rick Nicholls.
