It was a harrowing night for VIA Rail passengers heading between Windsor and London.
The train, which left Chatham shortly after 6:30 Sunday evening, was forced to make an emergency stop near Thamesville after the engine overheated.
Chatham-Kent Fire fighters were called out to hose down the engine, but passengers weren’t allowed off during the over six-hour delay.
VIA Rail was communicating with passengers over Twitter throughout the ordeal, saying that because the train wasn’t in a “secure location” alternative transportation wasn’t an option.
A rescue engine eventually arrived to tow the disabled train to London.
