A long, harrowing night for some VIA Rail passengers.
A train heading from Toronto to London Tuesday night suffered mechanical issues near Ingersoll, leaving hundreds of travellers stranded.
London-bound passengers were taken to their destination by bus roughly five hours later, but those heading further west to Chatham and Windsor had to wait even longer.
“Passengers on board were offered to complete their trip to London with alternative transportation, but some remained on the train as we were not able to secure transportation all the way up to Windsor,” a statement from VIA Rail reads. “Unfortunately, freight traffic and infrastructure issues generated additional delays before another VIA Rail train could reach train 79 to bring it and its passengers to destination. Train 79 arrived in Windsor 8h34mins late.”
A VIA spokesperson says passengers were offered food and drinks, along with a full refund and credit.
