Victoria Avenue Saves The Trees

Chatham-Kent council had a good old fashioned debate Monday night over the fate of the upgrades along Victoria Avenue in Chatham.

Staff submitted a plan to perform infrastructure updates that would have been quite invasive for the neighborhood.

Local residents let it be known they were against the plan that would have called for several trees to be removed and a round about at Victoria and Stephenson.

It was never voted on as Councillor Michael Bondy put forth a motion with a redesign that was voted down.

But Councillor Brock McGregor’s idea passed.

It called for no roundabout, save the trees, and on street bike lanes among other things.
