The Municipality of Chatham-Kent is reminding residents of the importance of following pandemic protocol and regulations, including social gatherings.
The first COVID-19 fine was laid in Chatham-Kent, after a local house party.
CAO Don Shropshire says attendees of a large party were fined after ignoring initial requests to disperse.
No details on the amount of the fine or the number of individuals fined.
Shelley Bechard, head of COVID–19 dispatch says the tip line is working well.
“We understand sometimes it is difficult to make the call to report a violation, but we appreciate the effort from everyone who is helping to keep our community safe,” says Bechard.
The municipality reminds residents to be factual with your tips.
Currently the enforcement team has responded to over 600 concerns. From those concerns, 169 warnings have been given and the one lone charge has been laid.
“Based on these numbers the majority of citizens are listening,” said Paul Lacina, Director of Building Development Services. “Although we continue to educate, we are past the point where it is acceptable for people to ignore the State of Emergency and the rules that go along with it. Fines will be laid to those in violation”
