Charges have been laid following a violent altercation with police in Ridgetown.

Officers were called to a Goodal Drive property just after 3:30 this morning and told a man was in the garage causing a disturbance.

Authorities say the man became aggressive with officers, yelling that he would harm them while holding a large wrench in one hand and a pry bar in the other, then ran towards police and struck one officer.

Additional units were called in as the accused continued to act in an assaultive and threatening manner, and police eventually used a conducted energy weapon to bring the man under control.

The 55-year-old has been charged with weapons dangerous, resisting arrest, two counts of uttering threats and three counts of assaulting a police officer with a weapon. He was taken to police headquarters and held for a bail hearing.
