Virtual Meeting To Provide Updates On Wheatley Explosion Investigation

An update on the ongoing investigation into the gas explosion in Wheatley will be provided to residents this weekend.

The Municipality of Chatham-Kent will be holding a virtual meeting on Saturday to discuss the investigation and provide information on the work being done at the site of the August 26 explosion around 15 Erie St. N.

The municipality said it will also discuss a potential reduction in the size of the evacuation zone.

Following a presentation, questions can be submitted to a panel made up of municipal officials and others.

The meeting will be viewable on the municipal Facebook site and YouTube channel beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday. No registration is needed.

The gas explosion on August 26, 2021, destroyed one building and injured 20 people. As a result, a total of 67 households and 44 businesses and not-for-profit organizations were evacuated.
