The waiting game continues for cottage owners at Rondeau Provincial Park. With the current leases set to expire at the end of 2017, an Ontario Municipal Board is attempting to determine whether the Municipality of Chatham-Kent has the jurisdiction to declare the cottages as part of a heritage conservation district.
Rondeau Cottagers Association President David Colby is cautiously optimistic the ruling will go in their favour.
“The evidence that was presented that we are a cultural heritage landscape of provincial significance went unchallenged” says Colby. “We are now on the record as a bonafide, legally recognized cultural heritage district. So the questions is who has the jurisdiction to formalize that designation.”
A decision is expected in the next four to six weeks.
