While the L.O. Stonehouse Bridge in downtown Wallaceburg will remain closed to pedestrians on WAMBO weekend, boats will have no problem passing through on the Sydenham River.

According to Brendan Falkner, Chatham-Kent’s manager of engineering for roads and bridges, a portion of the bridge has been removed to allow vessels to pass by unimpeded during the Wallaceburg Antique Motor and Boat Outing this weekend.

Municipal crews were at the site on Friday to remove the lift span of the structure.

The bridge has been closed since the fall of 2021 due to public safety concerns. However, back in March, CK Council voted to spend $1.6 million to rehabilitate the bridge and extend the structure’s lifespan by another 60 years.

The rehabilitation project is slated to begin sometime next year.
