Gary & Dina Edwards are being recognized as this year’s Chip Gordon Citizen of the Year.
The former long-time owners of Dresden Foodland were among over a dozen recipients honoured during last night’s 25th annual Business and Community Excellence Awards, handed out by the Wallaceburg and District Chamber of Commerce.
It was the first in-person ceremony held by the Chamber since 2019, with a full house at the Sydenham Community Curling club.
There were a couple of new awards handed out this year, including the Women in Business award given to Eleena Shepley of Westbrook’s Flower Shoppe.
The inaugural Legacy Award recognized three local icons who were lost in the past year: Gord Childs, Rex Crawford, and Steve Bilodeau.
Other honourees include re:find with the Volunteer of the Year; Chad Debot of Longview Poultry was given the Technology Award; and the Young Professional Award honour went to Samantha McFadden, the first female salesperson to serve customers at Riverview GM.
J. Thomas McGregor Professional Corporation was named Business of the Year, Dave McCready with Angler’s Choice was named Entrepreneur of the Year.
Select Finishing Ltd took home two awards including the Industrial Award and Community Inclusion.
Karen DeBergh was recognized by the Chamber as a Lifetime Membership Award winner, and Gene Schepens was honoured with the Wallaceburg BIA Award.
