A Wallaceburg man has turned himself in to police in connection to a fraud investigation involving a local bank.
Police in Toronto turned over the fraud investigation to the Chatham-Kent Police Service last month after money was traced to an account at a Wallaceburg bank.
Authorities said the victim of the scam believed she was securing a loan through an online banking company by paying insurance. She then transferred a significant amount of money to the bank account in Wallaceburg.
Officers were able to identify the owner of the account and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
The 61-year-old accused turned himself in at police headquarters Monday morning. He is now charged with one count of fraud and was released with conditions and a February court date.
