Despite some local discussion, the Wallaceburg & District Museum remains “closed to the public” due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Museum officials say they have had to lay off the Museum Curator and Social Media lead until we they’re able to re-open.
Executive member Dee Gallerno says the museum may not open until the new year. Until more is known, any re-opening date is unknown.
The annual “Haunted Museum” has also been cancelled.
“We are very disappointed to not have our traditional Haunted House that is one of our main fundraisers and perhaps not have our traditional Visit with Santa in December either,” says Gallerno. “We know a lot of families will be disappointed but for COVID safety as well as the numbers of people allowed in The Museum at one time as put forward by The Ontario government, it is impossible for us to hold these functions.”
The Museum is working internally with COVID protocols in place. Members of the Museum family and dedicated local volunteers are working behind the scenes to keep artifacts clean, safe and itemized.
The recent theft of a laptop from the “Pole Barn” has been a significant loss to the Museum. The laptop held important information about the Museum’s glass collection. Thankfully, some information was retrieved from a backed up source. Officials have now installed an upgraded alarm system to deter similar events.
“Our motto at The Wallaceburg Museum is Preserving History For The Generations To Come which all of us Volunteers and staff live by, so be assured that we will faithfully continue to do just that,” adds Gallerno.
