As Canadians across the country paused this morning to honour our country’s soldiers, a local veteran is hoping the next generation never forgets.
Stephen Evans served with the Canadian Forces for 32 years, and says Remembrance Day will always have an important purpose.
“If you do not remember the past, you will do it again,” Evans says. “War is not a pretty thing to be involved in. You cannot fight for peace, but peace is the ultimate goal.”
Evans was one of hundreds of area residents to gather at the Wallaceburg Cenotaph this morning for Remembrance Day ceremonies.
Similar ceremonies were held across Chatham-Kent today.
