The Wallaceburg Splash Pad has taken another big step forward.
An official ground-breaking ceremony was held at Colwell Park last night, marking the start of construction.
Jane McGee is the municipality’s supervisor of recreation facilities for the Wallaceburg area, and says a pre-construction meeting will be held later this morning, involving Entegrus, the PUC and Public Works, along with officials from the construction company and a volunteer excavator.
The pre-construction meeting being as early as it is, that hopefully if there’s any downfalls we will recognize that,” McGee explains. “Whether it’s a water service issue or a hydro issue, we’re hoping that the early pre-construction gets us on track and we’re good to go.”
The park is expected to be finished July 28th and will include 19 water features with three play zones – one for toddlers, teens, and families.
As far as fundraising goes, the committee has now raised $170,000 of its $200,000 goal.
The splash pad was given a municipal loan earlier this year to help get construction started, but that money still needs to be paid back.
