The 2011/12 Wallaceburg Sports Hall of Fame is Saturday, January 28 at the Oaks Inn Cookhouse in Wallaceburg.

Male Athlete :- Dan Bertrand Memorial Award of Excellence

Mike Hinnegan

  • ·         Played numerous sports in elementary school and High School in Wallaceburg
  • ·         Played minor, Junior and senior hockey in Wallaceburg.
  • ·         Played minor , intermediate and senior lacrosse
  • ·         Played Oldtimer Hockey Wallaceburg Hornet Oldtimers

 

Female Athlete :- Marion and Bill Chinnick Memorial Award of Excellence

Jacqueline Hogan

  • ·         Played basketball in elementary school and high school
  • ·         Played travel team soccer from age 10, played on teams from Chatham , Corunna and St. Thomas
  • ·         In High School won SWOSSSA championship and competed at OFSSA
  • ·         Attended Mississippi Valley State on a full soccer scholarship and was Captain her last two years,
  • ·         They won the Southwestern athletic assoc. championship twice and advanced to NCA Final 64

 

Masters Classic ;- Frank and Zine Mann Honor Role

John Floin

  • ·         Baseball player in late 40’s and 50’s playing third base for OBA championship teams in Bantam Midget and Juvenile teams
  • ·         Had a tryout with New York Giants in 1951

 

Honorary Chairman

Bill MacArthur

  • ·         Inducted into Hall of Fame twice with 1950 and 1959  Ontario Intermediate Red Devil Lacrosse Teams
  • ·         Has attended most if not all of Wallaceburg Sports Hall of Fame awards nights since it’s inception 31 years ago

 

Builder Inductee :- Mike Childs Memorial Award of Excellence

Harold Ribson

  • ·         Arena manager in Mid 60’s
  • ·         One of the founders of girls hockey in Wallaceburg and helped organize the original Wallaceburg Lipstick Ladies Hockey Tournament
  • ·         Was involved in Girls hockey in every community he worked in after leaving W’Burg in 1968
  • ·         Also involved in Little Theater

 

Team Inductee

1980/81 Wallaceburg Hornet Oldtimers Hockey Team that won National Oldtimer Hockey Championship in Montreal

  • ·         Went undefeated in tournament and beat the team from St. John NB in final 7-1
  • ·         Through fundraisers like Bingo’s, Beef on a bun and the famous Sausage and sauerkraut have donated many thousands of dollars to local   charities and athletic associations
