Wallaceburg has lost a pillar of the community.
Gord Childs passed away surrounded by family at his home early Wednesday, his 86th birthday.
Together with his wife Francis, Childs founded the Salvation Army lunch in 1969, which has now raised over $354,000, and Hearty Soup Luncheon to support those less fortunate in Wallaceburg.
A founding father of the Wallaceburg Sports Hall of Fame, Childs contributed to hundreds of causes as a coach, mentor, and advisor.
A funeral and celebration of life will be by invitation only.
