A Wallaceburg resident is being honoured for his dedication to the environment.

The Sydenham Field Naturalists recently presented Herman Giethoorn with the Friend of Nature Award at the annual spring banquet.

Giethoorn was a founding member of the organization in 1985, and holds the distinction of being the group’s longest-serving board member with 38 years of service. Officials say he has been an integral part of the group’s commitment to conservation, restoration, and preservation of nature in the Sydenham and Thames watershed.

Although now retired, officials say Giethoorn remains deeply involved in SFN’s activities, serving as the official photographer and volunteering for work parties.

The Sydenham Field Naturalists is a non-profit organization dedicated to the conservation and appreciation of nature in the Sydenham and Thames watershed.
