
Fire officials on Walpole Island First Nation are putting the wraps on a busy year.
Officials with the Walpole Island Fire Department say crews responded to 215 emergency calls in 2025, including 102 wildland fires, 31 structure fires, and 25 landfill fires.
Fire fighters also provided medical assistance 13 times over the past 12 months, responded to 10 fire alarms, 5 vehicle fires, 5 reports of suspicious smells, and 23 other calls that have not been categorized.
The fire service had a busy start to the new year as well, responding to a structure fire in an abandoned building and a landfill fire, both on January 3rd. Officials say both were contained with no injuries reported.
