With band elections coming up on Walpole Island First Nation, some familiar – but not local – names have appeared on the ballot.
Ryan Reynolds and Sir Paul McCartney have been nominated for chief.
Because Walpole Island’s elections are still governed by the Indian Act, non-members can be nominated, but administration is working with the electoral officer and government to contact the would-be candidates. If they don’t hear back by 4pm on Thursday, the stars’ names will be removed from the ballot.
10 other candidates are in the running for Chief, including incumbent Dan Miskokomon, and another 80 are vying for a spot on council.
