Walpole Island Hawks Taking Part in Little NHL

Hockey players from Walpole Island First Nation are taking part in this week’s Little Native Hockey Tournament in Mississauga.

It’s the first time in three years the event has been held, making this the 49th annual tourney.

Officially hosted by Nipissing First Nation, total of 474 matches featuring 184 teams from across Ontario are being played at rinks throughout Mississauga.

Organizers say the tournament brings Indigenous young people together to play hockey, and helps to unite First Nations communities.

The opening ceremonies were held Sunday, and the championship games going tomorrow.
