
Over a dozen charges have been laid in connection to a traffic stop on Walpole Island First Nation.
Members of the Walpole Island Police Service pulled over a vehicle on Chiefs Road just before 3:30 Tuesday afternoon.
Officers suspected the driver may need further testing, and members of the Lambton PPP were then called in to assist.
The 26-year-old Walpole Island man behind the wheel was arrested and charged with 13 offences under the Criminal Code, Highway Traffic Act, and Liquor Licence and Control Act.
- Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
- Failure or refusal to comply with demand
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm (two counts)
- Occupant of motor vehicle knowing there was a firearm (two counts)
- Transport firearm, weapon prohibited device or ammunition in a careless manner (two counts)
- Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose (two counts)
- Mischief – interfere with lawful use, enjoyment or operation of property – under $5000
- Drive motor vehicle – no licence
- Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor
A 90-day license suspension and 7-day vehicle impoundment were also issued.
The accused was held in custody for a bail hearing in Sarnia.
