Walpole Island Man Found Dead With Apparent Gunshot Wounds

An arrest has been made after a man was found dead on Walpole Island First Nation with gunshot wounds.

The Ontario Provincial Police said officers responded to a disturbance involving a firearm on Squirrel Island Road at around 8 a.m. on January 1. Police arrived to find a 29-year-old Walpole Island resident with apparent gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

One person has since been taken into custody without incident in connection with the death. The suspect’s name and age have not been released, nor have any charges.

The accused remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in a Sarnia courtroom on January 7.

The investigation remains ongoing, however, police said there is no additional threat to public safety.
