Walpole Island First Nation is starting to ease restrictions for non-residents.

Band Council has agreed not to extend the bridge checkpoint, which is set to expire on August 31st.

Officials say the state of emergency remains in place, and Chief and Council will continue to monitor based on community feedback and advice from their health team and Emergency Operations Control Group.

The Chief and Council have also approved a recommendation for face coverings for indoor spaces on Walpole Island First Nation. Walpole Island First Nation is starting to ease restrictions for non-residents.

“We’ve seen decreases in the number of cases of COVID-19 here and in the surrounding communities,” says Chief Dan Miskokomon. “We will continue to monitor these numbers and ask that everyone continue to follow physical distancing guidelines and face covering recommendations to prevent the spread of COVID-19.”

There are currently no active cases of the coronavirus on Walpole Island.
