A councillor from Ward 2 is hoping council will approve his motion to start gathering public input on flooding and drainage issues in Blenheim.

Councillor Anthony Ceccacci put forward the notice of motion at the May 11 council meeting spurred by recent flooding and drainage issues facing residents in that area.

“There’s no [Blenheim] storm water masterplan, and speaking with staff that is on the horizon,” Ceccacci told CKXS News.

“But the challenging part is stormwater masterplans take a long time. It gathers a lot of information. There’s a lot of technical work to it.”

Ceccacci hopes his motion will kick start the process of finding solutionsand get ahead of the growing issue.

“I’m hoping they will do whatever they can do collect data from the constituents that are seeing significant concerns…And the hope is, that when they do the stormwater masterplan they will prioritize these areas that are convoluted.”

Ceccacci’s motion will go before council at their next meeting on Monday May 25.
