Municipal candidates attend a forum in Wallaceburg on August 29, 2018

Municipal candidates were given an inside look at just some of what Wallaceburg has to offer.

A forum was held this morning, hosted by Ward 5 candidate Nick Cadotte, focusing on local business, drug addiction, and other issues.

Jamie Courteaux is hoping to see more council involvement in getting issues like drug addiction and recovery to the forefront.

“It was important for me to speak today because I wanted to get the ear of everyone who’s running in Chatham-Kent and let them know that we need changes moving forward in our communities. I want to try to get something going in the schools as far as assemblies and I want to see who’s going to step up and actually make things happen,” says Courteaux.

Karen Debergh, chair of the Wallaceburg and District Chamber of Commerce says it’s important for candidates to understand the needs of the community.

“It’s a great idea to do this through the municipality. When you’re on Council, you’re not just representing your ward, you need to do things that are good for all of Chatham-Kent. When you know and start to know people and know each other in a different situation, that’s when you start to see the bigger picture,” Debergh says.

In all, five of the six mayoral candidates turned out for this morning’s event, along with about a dozen council hopefuls.
