David Hyatt

David Hyatt 67 married to Anita Hyatt for 44 years 3 children and 15 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. My family and I have deep roots in Wallaceburg lifelong residence. I ran in 1998 and found it a great experience even though I was not elected. Soon after this, I became the president of Wildwood by the lake and instrumental and bringing all the new infrastructure into the Park and Ass association which included municipal water, sewer system, and a new electrical grid. That give me an insight at a smaller budget than what municipality has but it give me some experience in what to expect. I’ve been in business for 47 years first I was part owner of Hyatt trucking and excavating doing much doing much of the municipality infrastructure. In for the last 30+ years, I’ve been a general contractor/renovator in Wallaceburg. I was also involved with bringing a group called northern group work camp that brought hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of renovations to the less fortunate over a three year period in Wallaceburg. Both My Wife and I invested in sponsoring both the Lakers and the red Devils. My biggest concerns are that are population is dropped by 2500 saying that you’re losing about $80 million a year not being spent here and all the small businesses are hurting based on losing revenues. We need to bring back sustainable jobs, there needs to be developing in Wallaceburg for single dwelling homes, we also need more affordable housing in Wallaceburg. We have an opiate crisis. We have homeless that many don’t see. We also need more equalization and the way they distribute the tax dollars that are collected from every ward and re-distributed back into each ward. I am retired now and would dedicate 100% of my time to meeting with the constituents of the Wallaceburg and surrounded area to hear their concerns and I would be very transparent. being in what I called the last chapter of my life, I’d like to give Wallaceburg back what it deserves you can see me at any time driving through Wallaceburg in my 1915 black model T roadster I’ve owned many old cars It’s one of my love and passions today looking at those cars. I’m always reminded history teaches us to build a better future. It’s time to build build on my passion and love for Wallaceburg. I would love the support of Wallaceburg to represent them in the future.

Zac Nicholson

I am proud to officially announce my candidacy for municipal council in Ward 5. My life has been shaped by a deep commitment to community, and I am ready to bring that dedicated, frontline leadership to Chatham-Kent.

I have spent my 20s in uniform—serving as a infantry soldier in the Canadian Armed Forces and later transitioning to my current role as a local volunteer firefighter. These experiences taught me the true meaning of duty, discipline, and teamwork under pressure. On the frontlines, I see the everyday challenges facing our Ward firsthand. I know what it takes to keep our community safe, and I will always ensure our first responders have the backing they need. Professionally, I have operated my own legal practice, Nicholson Paralegal, in Chatham-Kent as a Licensed Paralegal for over six years. My career is built on advocating for people and finding precise, practical solutions to complex problems.

I believe fiscal responsibility is the cornerstone of good governance. I am not afraid to ask the tough questions at budget time to ensure your tax dollars are working just as hard for you as you did to earn them. Our residents are tired of watching major investments in infrastructure, housing, and economic development bypass our area. It is time for Ward 5 to get its fair share and I will fiercely advocate to bring these projects home.

A top priority of mine is standing up for our agricultural community. Agriculture is the economic backbone of Chatham-Kent. I will fight to protect our farmland, support local agri-businesses, and ensure our rural infrastructure—like roads and vital drainage systems—are never overlooked. I will also be a strong voice for Ward 5’s younger generation. They are the future of our municipality, yet they have been historically underrepresented at the municipal level.

Ward 5 is a vibrant mix of generational farms, young families and hard-working residents. We need a councillor who understands both the frontlines and the boardroom. I am ready to put my experience to work for you.

Chris Young

Professional accountant and energy-sector capital project manager Chris Young has officially launched a campaign for the Ward 5 (Wallaceburg, Tupperville, Bass Haven, and area) council seat in the upcoming municipal election on October 26, 2026.

Running under the banner “Committed to Community, Dedicated to Progress,” Young brings a sharp, numbers-driven approach to municipal government. With a career focused directly on managing multi-million dollar capital spending budgets, strict financial forecasting, and complex problem-solving, Young aims to bring corporate discipline and absolute transparency to Chatham-Kent City Hall.

“Voters in Ward 5 are tired of seeing their tax dollars stretched thin while infrastructure projects face delays and budget overruns,” says Young. “I track dollars and forecast long-term capital costs for a living. I am stepping up to ensure our municipal budget is managed responsibly, tax hikes are kept in check, and Ward 5 firmly secures its fair share of infrastructure funding.”

The campaign’s core platform focuses on three main pillars:
1. Fiscal Responsibility & Smart Capital Spending: Bringing strict project oversight to City Hall to stop wasteful spending and control tax hikes.
2. Securing Ward 5’s Fair Share: Prioritizing “back to basics” infrastructure like local roads, bridges, and public utilities.
3. Practical Progress & Economic Growth: Cutting municipal red tape to support local small businesses and safely expand the local housing supply.

Young is a lifelong resident with a 58-year history of deep community involvement in Wallaceburg. Well-known for athletic and community leadership, Young served on the Wallaceburg Minor Hockey executive for a decade—including eight years as President—and has long been active in minor sports as a player and coach. Young also successfully chaired the grassroots Wallaceburg Splash Pad Committee to construct the town’s modern water park facility. Young’s deep understanding of local commerce is also built on years of working within Wallaceburg’s retail core, spanning classic local mainstays including Quinlan’s Shoe House, Wallaceburg Paint and Wallpaper, Lozon’s Meat Market, Leach Jeweler’s, The Zavitz Hardware Co., Gray Stationery, Strong Office Supplies, and Splash Pools.

Young is eager to connect directly with residents on their doorsteps in the coming weeks to discuss the future of the community.
