A warning from Chatham-Kent police with three overdose deaths reported in the last few days alone.

Authorities say the most recent deaths were suspected to be caused by fentanyl use.

Police are urging anyone who uses drugs or knows someone who does to carry naloxone and be aware of the signs of overdose. If an overdose is suspected, officials say to call 911, administer naloxone, and stay until help arrives.

Figures from Public Health show between 2016 and 2020, the local rate of opioid-related visits to the emergency department increased more than 280 per cent, with the local rate of opioid poisoning deaths jumping over 400 per cent.
