Warnings Fall on Deaf Ears

crimestoppersAnother week, another warning about falling victim to phone scams.

Dave Bakker of Chatham-Kent Crime Stoppers says no matter how many warnings are issued about keeping your personal information safe, new victims are coming forward almost every day.

Bakker recently spoke to the son of a scam victim and says for whatever reason, the message just isn’t getting through.

“When I asked him how it happened he indicated she continued to talk to him on the phonce because she didn’t want to be rude and hang up. In one of these situations it’s okay to be rude,” says Bakker.  “I know your mother always told younot to be rude but in this situatuation, the best way to stop a fraud is simply hang up the phone.”

Bakker says in that particular case, the victim was bilked out of more than $14,000 over the course of several transactions.
