Chatham-Kent residents will pay around $100 more for their water and wastewater in 2025.

According to the rate study commission by the CK Public Utilities Commission, the average water customer, who uses 17 cubic metres per day, will see their bill increase by $55.55 for the year. The average wastewater customer will also see an increase of $55.17 this year.

Customers who utilize both water and wastewater services will see an increase of $110.72 for 2025.

The increases to local water and wastewater rates, which are adjusted annually, will be presented to the PUC for approval during its next regular public meeting on January 16.

The most recent water and wastewater rate study projects that the combined water/wastewater bill will increase by an average of 7 per cent, or $112, annually between 2025 and 2034.

The current rate study is expected to be reviewed and renewed sometime in the next five years or sooner. Factors such as increases or decreases in construction costs, facility needs and funding from upper governments may lead to changes to the rates, which could go up or down.
