At tonight’s council meeting, Chatham-Kent council will discuss spending $80,000 to buy a parcel of land on Wallace Street in Wallaceburg that potentially could be part of a park.

The waterfront property located at 495 Wallace is just southwest of the downtown walking bridge.

A large portion of the southside of Wallaceburg near the Sydenham River is being looked at for residential development. The municipality is currently working on a draft secondary plan for the area, with the property in question is proposed to be designated for a future parkland feature at the base of the Stonehouse pedestrian bridge.

In a report to council it said the acquisition of this property would allow for a strategic redevelopment opportunity in the future.
